Arthritis and Hanna Somatics A Perfect Match

Doctors have long advised that for any type of arthritis, movement is very much indicated to keep strength, and enhance blood flow, and maintain range of motion for joints as much as possible. Somatics is perfect for the job, and much safer than many other modalities as well with its approach of gentleness, listening to the body’s signals. One important ingredient to the main technique we use, called “pandiculation”, is very slow, controlled motion. This slowness is the fastest way to change the signal from brain to muscle, and slowness also enhances strengthening. A short set of somatics makes a perfect “pre-warm up” for other physical activities, as it brings the muscles to optimum resting length and function, increases circulation, enhances awareness and control, and therefore serves as very effective injury prevention.
